Frequently Asked Questions
What are Autoimmune Diseases?
Your body is amazing, but sometimes it gets a little confused. An autoimmune disease a condition where your immune system mistakenly attacks your body. It thinks that that parts of your body, like your joints or skin are foreign cells and in an effort to protect your body, it hurts it instead. There is no known cause and no cures for auto-immune disease, just lots of different treatments options with varying effectiveness and sometimes bad side effects.
Why focus on Autoimmune Diseases?
Because someone has to. So often, people with autoimmune disease are fighting a with something that no one else can see and doctors aren’t often uncomfortable diagnosing. It’s a very lonely fight especially when you’re already stressed, tried, and frustrated. Many times my clients keep getting treated for the symptoms, but not the cause of their disease. That’s why we focus on autoimmune diseases, to support my clients as they address lifestyle shifts.
What’s the difference between “coaching” and “counseling”?
Coaching is holding space, acknowledging, validating, setting up an action plan and building in accountability.
Counseling is offering resources, tips, and ideas as they go on the above mentioned coaching journey.
As your counselor I can do more for you like, recommending teas, dietary shifts, aromatherapies, reiki, yoga postures, breath work practices, specific meditations, books to read or podcasts to explore. We’re taking things a step further and really developing hands on actions you can take on your recovery.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old science that believes we are all unique beings who can achieve balance and health by eating foods that serve our particular body type. The first step is identifying your dosha (think: body and personality type).
Then we explore what is out of balance (ex: excess weight, anxiety, low energy). Next, we develop a nutritional strategy: foods that fuel you verse foods that drain you. Finally, we set a goal, just one simple thing you will change in the next day/week/month and create steps to hold you accountable to reaching your desired outcome.
Ayurveda believes we are all perfect beings who already possess all we need to be happy and healthy. By exploring your instinctive preferences and emphasizing what strengthens your mind and spirit, you are able to start living your ideal, healthy lifestyle.
